 This book is a classic, but still deserves a plug. Perhaps the best book ever about economic hysteria -- the .com bubble, the housing bubble, the Madoff bubble, the "MLMs are sweeping America!" bubble, etc., etc., -- is still Charles Mackay's Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds. Absolutely agree with your recommendation of this book.
Best of all, since it is no longer under copyright in the US you can download and read it for free from gutenberg.org:

I prefer the original spelling, "... and the Madness of Krauts." It just conjures up far goofier imagery. (No, seriously. That was the title.)
